Tonight’s World Matchplay Headline Treble boosts three darts legends

Tonight sees some of the greatest players of past and present face off for a place in the quarter-finals of this year’s World Matchplay, and we’ve got a great 11/10 Headline Treble lined up.

First up to the oche from our special bet is Mervyn King, who faces Northern Irishman Brendan Dolan.

Though Dolan did well in the first round to knock Raymond van Barneveld out of the competition, King faced perhaps the harder challenge of beating world number six James Wade.

And while these two have pulled off perhaps the biggest shocks so far, the history books favour King in this one as his opponent has never progressed further than the second round in any previous World Matchplay.

A win for ‘The King’ is priced up at 1/2 while you can get evens for the pair to hit over 7.5 maximums combined.

Next in our treble is Phil Taylor. His opponent, Mensur Suljovic, might want to look away now.

Not only has the Power never lost a match against Suljovic, he’s not even dropped a leg.

He hasn’t failed to reach the quarters of a World Matchplay since 1996, when Suljovic was a 24-year old yet to throw a professional dart and current world number one Michael van Gerwen was a not-so-mighty seven-year old boy with a head full of hair.

The final leg of our treble concerns reigning world champion Gary Anderson who – after breezing through his first-round match against Alan Norris – faces Terry Jenkins.

Although Jenkins has beaten the Flying Scotsman an incredible 12 times in his last 13 meetings, don’t let that statistic fool you because it’s at major ranking events where Anderson really turns up, and this is one of the biggest.

While an Anderson win is priced at 1/7, perhaps a more tempting bet might be to back him with a handicap of -4.5 at 8/11 after his first round performance.
