Premier League betting is a real gift for us all!

Premier League betting is a real gift for us all!

Nine football games, 18 goals, and plenty of late drama! It’s official – Premier League betting is fun and not for the faint hearted! And as for live betting, who had their weekend capped off/spoiled (delete as applicable) by events at Hull?

Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Liverpool

At times breathless, at times technically intriguing, at all times fully committed. There was much to admire in this one as a third successive meeting between these two clubs ended in a third successive draw. Ultimately, Liverpool may feel hard done after being denied a second goal which was incorrectly ruled out for offside. Spurs, however, for whom the alert Michel Vorm impressed, deserve credit for their own fight back during the last 30 minutes when Danny Rose equalised James Milner’s first-half penalty.

Chelsea 3-0 Burnley

These clubs are poles apart in terms of resources and it showed on the pitch, too. Indeed, once Eden Hazard opened the scoring with a glorious solo run and finish after eight minutes – his sixth goal in the past eight league games – the outcome was never in doubt. Willian and substitute Victor Moses added a gloss to a scoreline which would have been higher if not for the splendid goalkeeping of Tom Heaton. For newly promoted Burnley, their survival chances will not be decided on games like this. For Chelsea, in each of the four seasons they have won the Premier League, they have won their first three matches of the campaign. That tells you something.

Crystal Palace 1-1 Bournemouth

It was so very late but Scott Dann’s 93rd minute header may just be the catalyst Crystal Palace need for an upturn in fortunes. Until then, they were in danger of going into the international break bottom of the table as they trailed to Josh King’s 11th minute opener and were further frustrated when Artur Boruc saved Yohan Cabaye’s spot-kick before half-time. Credit Eddie Howe’s side who came within seconds of resisting everything Palace could throw at them until Dann’s intervention.

Everton 1-0 Stoke

On a day in which Shay Given yet again showed age has not diminished his talent, it was unfortunate to have ended this way. At 40 years and 129 days old, the Irishman became the oldest player to score an own goal in the Premier League. That was six minutes after the restart when Given saved Leighton Baines’ penalty only for the rebound to strike him on the head and cross the line. That it was a highly contentious penalty – the second time in a week Stoke have been on the receiving end of one – will only add to Mark Hughes’ anger.

Leicester City 2-1 Swansea City

Watching the closing stages of this one, it was hard to believe it was late August. Indeed, the sun-drenched Premier League grounds hosting other games seemed to belong to a different country as the ball regularly held up on a waterlogged pitch amidst an electrical storm so severe, if it had arrived earlier, the match would surely have been abandoned. There was no doubting the champions, driven forward by Danny Drinkwater, deserved the victory, courtesy of a fine Jamie Vardy finish and an instinctive strike from the skipper Wes Morgan. Leroy Fer headed in a late reply but the battle of the Italians on the touchline was won by Claudio Ranieri over Francesco Guidolin.

Southampton 1-1 Sunderland

A late show at St Mary’s and a point apiece for two managers whose sides could well face a long hard winter. Jermain Defoe – who else?! – put the visitors in front with an 80th-minute penalty only for sub Jay Rodriguez to intervene five minutes later and give a timely reminder of his talent before it was cruelly put on hold by knee and foot injuries. That the equaliser came with a helping hand from Jordan Pickford will be of little consolation to the Mackems as, until that point, their number two goalkeeper had produced a display which will soften the loss of Vito Mannone to injury for three months.

Watford 1-3 Arsenal

Three first half goals ensured this contest was over by half-time. What did we learn that we didn’t already know? Very little in truth. Arsenal have spent money and have a good squad but mentally can they compete with the big boys when it matters – the question remains. Watford got a fighting spirit but need their new faces to bed in quickly or Walter Mazzarri may be the latest head coach to fall victim to seemingly impatient club owners. Santi Cazorla (penalty), Alexis Sanchez, and Mesut Ozil were the goal-getters with substitute Robert Pereyra netting his first goal for his new employers.

Hull 0-1 Manchester United

Just when it looked like it wasn’t going to happen, Wayne Rooney evaded a tired challenge, fired in a low cross and the ebullience of youth, Marcus Rashford, sent Man Utd players, management, and fans into raptures. There was no doubt the goal had been coming – and so it should given the talent at United’s disposal compared to the paucity of options Hull enjoy. Yet it was still a little cruel on a home side whose backline was outstanding. Their hearts were broken but they can take much heart from their opening three encounters.

West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

Three games in and Boro are unbeaten. This latest point will please Aitor Karanka as it was hard-fought and displayed resilience all newly promoted sides require. For West Brom, an admission by Tony Pulis that he needs new faces to freshen things up. If he can do the deadline day deals he wants, West Brom can be up and running. If not, they could ultimately be sucked into the dogfight.
