Massive Euro Football Games make for a sparkling Week!

Massive Euro Football Games make for a sparkling Week!

Hands up if you like Mondays; I thought as much. But don’t worry, when the weekend comes to an end and by the time we’ve stopped sulking at the prospect of work, it’s Champions League time! And there are some whoppers this week. Betting websites and football betting pundits are licking their lips at the prospect of Atletico against Bayern on Wednesday; but before that there’s another blockbuster.

GROUP STAGE WEEK 2 WEDNESDAY:

Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid

Los Blancos beat Sporting, if a little unconvincingly in the opening Group F fixture while Dortmund went to Warsaw and smashed Legia for six. The Bundesliga’s biggest challengers to Bayern could make life tough for Cristiano Ronaldo and company and Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang will be a constant threat. Sporting CP vs Legia Warsaw is a chance for the visitors to erase the memory of a painful start, but the Lisbon hosts are overwhelming favourites.

Monaco vs Bayer Leverkusen

In Group E clinical Monaco won 2-1 in Spurs while Leverkusen fought out a 2-2 draw with CSKA. This is a tight group and Leverkusen will expect at least a draw in the South of France. Meanwhile Mauricio Pochettino will want his team to improve in Europe as CSKA Moscow vs Spurs gives the EPL club a chance to get going. But he will be without striker Harry Kane.

Dinamo Zagreb vs Juventus

Juventus against Sevilla in the opening Group H fixture ended as a draw, a good result for Jorge Sampaoli’s side but it means Juve will be highly focussed in Zagreb, with Gonzalo Higuain keen to make his UCL mark. Sevilla vs Lyon gives teenager Maxwell Cornet another chance to impress as he did in Lyon’s three goal win against Zagreb, but the French will be delighted with anything in Seville.

Leicester City vs Porto

The Leicester City bandwagon has rolled into Europe in Group G winning 3-0 in Brugge. Europe hasn’t sussed the Foxes out yet as the EPL seems to have. Porto, who shared two goals with Copenhagen in Round One may benefit from sitting deep and not allowing Leicester to play on the break. FC Copenhagen vs Club Brugge sees the home side odds on favourites to heap more misery on the Belgians.

GROUP STAGE WEEK 2 THURSDAY:

Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich

Arguably the game of the round comes in Group D in Spain where the big guns meet, both with three points in the bag. Bayern blew Rostov away 5-0 while Diego Simeone’s team won in Eindhoven. Atletico are hard to break down and this will be a fascinating battle. FC Rostov vs PSV Eindhoven sees the Dutch side making the trip to inhospitable Rostov. They’ll just be pleased to get home.

Monchengladbach vs Barcelona

Group C is topped by Barcelona who wacked Celtic 7-0 while Monchengladbach received a four goal caning in Manchester and I can’t see a change in either’s fortunes any time soon. Celtic vs Manchester City gives the Scots a chance to prove they can live with the top teams south of the border. But that’s unlikely! Nolito is making a real mark at City since his switch from Celta Vigo. Two away wins look probable in this group.

Arsenal vs Basel

Arsenal left Paris with a great point after negotiating their most difficult task in Group A, while Basel drew with Ludogrets 1-1. Alexis Sanchez remains Arsene Wenger’s most dangerous player and he will hope his team continues to show more steel in Europe. In the other tie, Ludogorets vs PSG should see the Parisiens making amends after they conceded their lead to the Gunners; and Unai Emery’s team is overwhelming favourite.

Napoli vs Benfica

Napoli can already make big strides towards the knock-out stages if they, as expected, beat the Portuguese giants in Group B. Jose Callejon has ably stepped into the shoes of Gonzalo Higuain to score Napoli’s goals. Besiktas vs Dynamo Kiev last met in 2011 when the Turkish hosts came out on top, and they are favourites again.

There’s something for every football fan. Enjoy the week and the European delights!
