      Italian football games are no longer the predictable outcomes they once were. Betting tips offer a much more varied approach than in days of yore. Other than the usual certainty that Juventus will normally win 1-0!

Palermo 0-1 Juventus

In the week club president Andrea Agnelli described Juventus as ‘leaders on and off the pitch’, his players delivered. It took an Edoardo Goldaniga own goal to earn them victory over Palermo. Five wins from six is a decent start for a club hoping to become Italian champions for a sixth straight season.

The side all neutrals wanted to win Serie A last season have maintained their early season form. Not a bad time then for Marek Hamsik to notch his 100^th Napoli goal. With Manolo Gabbiadini adding his first of the new campaign, this was a routine victory.

Fiorentina 0-0 Milan

The match of the weekend ended goalless, not least because Josip Ilicic was unable to convert from 12 yards. His first-half penalty miss ensured the home side slipped to 11^th. It was also a point for Milan boss Vincenzo Montella on his return to Florence.

Sassuolo 1-0 Udinese

A 34^th minute goal from Gregoire Defrel was enough to settle this one. Indeed, he can’t stop scoring right now. They may have ridden their luck at times but they are ninth in the top flight which is pretty good for a town whose population boasts just 50,000.

Lazio 2-0 Empoli

It wasn’t until the 90^th minute that this victory was secured. A Senad Lulic header sealed the points after Keita Balde Diao’s first goal of the season. It took Lazio up to fifth as they bid to become contenders rather than also-rans.

Inter Milan 1-1 Bologna

It was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show and all that! After the morale boosting victory over Juventus a week earlier, they could only draw at home, despite 22 shots during the match. It was a reshuffled Inter at the San Siro as they failed to build on Ivan Perisic cancelling out Mattia Destro’s opener.

Genoa 1-1 Pescara

Who would have thought this would have been the most talked about match of the weekend! A 21 year-old by the name of Giovanni Simeone – son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego – had threatened to take the attention when he opened his account in Italian football. But the Genoa striker saw two team-mates sent-off late on and Rey Manaj capitalised to earn Pescara a point.

Torino 3-1 Roma

Torino, with England goalkeeper Joe Hart impressing, had waited for this moment since 1990. Of course it had to be Iago Falque – on loan from Roma – who was the hero with two goals to seal Torino’s first home victory over their opponents in 26 years. Two days before his 40^th birthday, Italian legend Francesco Totti replied with his 250^th goal in Serie A. Perhaps Falque will return next summer and prove his long-term replacement in the capital. This weekend’s match of the weekend between Roma and Inter should be a thriller with home advantage favouring Roma – 1X2 @ 2.11 – and Inter an attractive 1X2 @ 3.35.

Crotone 1-3 Atalanta

Game over by half-time as Atalanta climbed three places to show newly promoted Crotone just how tough life could be. They could even afford to be reduced to 10 men after the break when Franck Kessie was shown a red card. By then his side were in charge through goals from Alejandro Gomez, Andrea Petagna and Jasmin Kurtic that ensured the hosts remained bottom.

Cagliari 2-1 Sampdoria

A howler decided the final match of the weekend in the Italian top flight. It looked like the visitors had rescued a point when Bruno Fernandes had levelled four minutes from time. But then Emiliano Viviano missed a routine clearance to leave Federico Melchiorri with a simple task for the winner and a fourth straight defeat for Sampdoria.
