Who offers best value in Ladbrokes Premiership top scorer race?

      While Celtic look sure to be crowned Ladbrokes Premiership champions come May, there’s a far closer battle taking place in the top goalscorer market, with stars from a host of clubs vying to secure the accolade. Here’s Ladbrokes News’ verdict on who you should back for goalscoring glory, and which hopefuls are best avoided.

Scott Sinclair (Celtic, 9 Goals)

The former Manchester City man is on cloud nine at Parkhead right now, having notched up double figures in all competitions already. While other contenders have often dealt in unpredictable goal gluts, the 27-year-old has found the net in nine different Ladbrokes Premiership games. That consistency makes him worth a punt at the tempting price of 11/4. Worth backing? – Yes

Liam Boyce (Ross County, 8 goals)

The Northern Irishman deserves real credit for hitting double figures for the Staggies in each of the last two Premiership campaigns – but in reality, he’s never been close to claiming this accolade, and looks unlikely to do so this year. Overly reliant on penalties, half of his goals have come from the spot in this league campaign, while he’s already endured a five-game dry spell this season. Worth backing? – No

Moussa Dembele (Celtic, 7 goals)

Look, we get it. This Dembele lad is something special. But at just 9/4 to finish as the league’s top scorer, the value seems to be elsewhere – especially with the youngster now goalless in his last 260 minutes of football in the division. Worth backing? – No

Louis Moult (Motherwell, 6 goals)

If every game was a Lanarkshire derby, they’d probably have handed the 23-year-old this award already. But despite four goals against Hamilton Academical, we’d recommend swerving the 14/1 for him to top the scoring tree. One goal in his last eight league games has left the Well dry as far as goals are concerned, and all but written off Moult’s chances of outscoring his contemporaries. Worth backing? – No

Leigh Griffiths (Celtic, 4 goals)

It’s hard to believe that the man who started out at just 5/2 to retain his crown as Ladbrokes Premiership top goalscorer has already been pushed out to 6/1. But that’s the result of just five league starts so far. Still, the former Hibernian man is unlikely to ever be this good of a price again – and having chalked up an astonishing 31 goals last season, he’s surely worth a bet again here. Worth backing? – Yes

Adam Rooney (Aberdeen, 4 goals)

There’ll never be a better time to bet on Rooney to record the top total, with 14/1 for the Dons ace to be this season’s top goalscorer, after a hit-and-miss start to the campaign. If form is temporary and class permanent, then the 38 goals he’s netted in the previous two Ladbrokes Premiership campaigns mean that while the odds suggest the 28-year-old is an outsider, he’s actually anything but. Worth backing? – Yes. Best bet of all.
