Here’s why Neymar to Man United could affect both Liverpool & PSG

Here’s why Neymar to Man United could affect both Liverpool & PSG

Speculation surrounding a mega money move for Neymar from Manchester United is rapidly intensifying, and the Barcelona star is now just 6/4 to make Old Trafford his next destination. But such a deal may just open the door for a couple more huge transfers over the next year or so, and Liverpool fans may not like what they’re about to see. Paris Saint-Germain supporters, however, will be keeping their fingers crossed that a deal goes ahead.

So, how might the Reds and the French giants be affected?

While a move for Neymar would certainly strengthen Jose Mourinho’s front line, it would be bad news for a handful of current Red Devils in and around the first-team. One of those names is Anthony Martial. The France international has started just five league games under the Special One and is being forced to play out on the left-hand side, despite arriving in Manchester as an out-and-out striker. It’s a small world in football, and former PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is now plying his trade under Mourinho at United. That means there’s a lot of pressure of Edinson Cavani to deliver the good week-in, week-out.

While he’s done well to cope with the pressure on his shoulders, he’d certainly benefit from another huge name playing alongside him. And Martial has been linked with a move back to France in recent days, with the Parc des Princes being his most likely destination. Of course, Les Parisiens would have to fork out a substantial amount should they sign the 20-year-old, and it’s money that United could quickly spend to attract Neymar to Old Trafford.

But should Barca allow one of their main players to leave next summer, it would leave them with a gap that would need filling in their front three. Step forward, Philippe Coutinho. The Liverpool man has been in great form so far this season, and is well on course to having his best campaign in a Reds shirt. With five goals and three assists already to his name, he’s fast becoming Jurgen Klopp’s main man. Of course, that’s led to several of Europe’s elite clubs showing an interest – one of which is Barcelona. The Catalan giants prised Luis Suarez away from Anfield back in 2014, and may well do the same with Coutinho next summer should Neymar move to Man United.

A like-for-like replacement? Not quite, but there’s no doubting Coutinho’s talent, and a move to Camp Nou may just result in him taking his game to the next level.
