So were you really expecting this sports betting fans?

So were you really expecting this sports betting fans?

Admit it. You weren’t, were you? Certainly, it’s doubtful many aficionados of Premier League betting expected such one-sided scorelines in so many football games, even accounting for the competitiveness of the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 West Bromwich Albion

In the words of hat-trick hero Harry Kane, this was arguably Spurs’ best performance of the season. Yes, West Brom were run ragged and never looked like repeating the resolute displays they produced at Chelsea and Arsenal last month. But Mauricio Pochettino’s side were terrific and, if not for Baggies’ goalkeeper Ben Foster, could have had a cricket score. If they can maintain this form they could yet challenge for the title.

Burnley 1-0 Southampton

Who read this script?! Perhaps Joey Barton did as he marked his return to the Premier League with the only goal of the game. The Clarets’ home form is keeping them out of a relegation dogfight and this win, secured a few minutes after Barton entered the fray, ensured they leapfrogged the Saints at the end of an even and entertaining contest.

Hull City 3-1 Bournemouth

It’s fair to say new boss Marco Silva has made a good start to his time in England. Two wins in three games and Hull are off the bottom. This spirited showing, helped by an Abel Hernandez double after they fought back from a goal down, shows they can stay up – but Silva will need the transfer window backing that Mike Phelan was unable to access.

Sunderland 1-3 Stoke City

After their 2-2 draw with Liverpool, this was another step back for the Wearsiders who were left out of sight by Stoke during a 20-minute spell midway through the first half. Two quick fire goals from Marko Arnautovic and as simple a finish as Peter Crouch will have – for his 99th Premier League goal – eased some pressure on Stoke boss Mark Hughes after their FA Cup exit. Jermain Defoe, who else(!), reduced the arrears but this was another Jekyll n’ Hyde day for Sunderland who were well beaten.

Swansea City 0-4 Arsenal

The Swans kept going but two own goals in 13 second half minutes left them crestfallen as Arsenal ultimately eased to victory. This game underlined the task facing Paul Clement, in his first home match in charge. It was a welcome first away win in four for the Gunners.

Watford 0-0 Middlesbrough

On an emotional day, Vicarage Road paid a heartfelt farewell to their favourite son. Graham Taylor, the man who inspired the best period in Watford’s history, was remembered as former players shared memories and fans displayed their love and support for one of football’s gentlemen. It was a rare clean sheet for the Hornets and another blank in front of goal for Boro, but this was a day when the result was secondary to the occasion, watched by Taylor’s wife and daughters.

West Ham United 3-0 Crystal Palace

After the pre-match shock of Dimitri Payet supposedly telling West Ham he wants to leave the club, this was a real fillip for the Hammers. The result, secured through goals from Sofiane Feghouli, Andy Carroll and Manuel Lanzini, means they are mid-table for the first time all season. Palace were well in the game until the goal rush in the final quarter – Sam Allardyce is still waiting for his first win.

Leicester City 0-3 Chelsea

If anyone thought the well-documented dispute with Diego Costa could unsettle Chelsea it didn’t take long to quash the suggestion. Six minutes, in fact, was all it took for Marcos Alonso to fire the opener to put the league leaders in front at the home of the reigning champions. That he struck again just six minutes into the second half gave Chelsea breathing space before Pedro capped an impressive statement.

Everton 4-0 Manchester City

A trip to Goodison is always tough but this result leaves Manchester City all but out of the title race. Pep Guardiola and his players enjoyed 71 per cent possession but the final scoreline is what matters and this was his heaviest ever league defeat as a manager. To score with four of your six attempts on goal shows how near perfect a day this was for Everton. That was confirmed when Tom Davies, on only his second league start, and £11 million debutant Ademola Lookman applied the coup de grace.
