Valtteri Bottas 5/2 to outscore Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes this season

Valtteri Bottas 5/2 to outscore Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes this season

After four years with Williams, Valtteri Bottas has bagged himself a Mercedes seat for 2017, and we’ve priced up a range of specials ahead of the Finn’s first year as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate. There wasn’t a driver on this earth who didn’t want the replace Nico Rosberg, following the German’s sudden retirement, but it was Bottas who was confirmed with the Silver Arrows earlier this week.

The Finn is highly regarded within the F1 fraternity, but it remains to be seen if he can step it up with the dominant German outfit. But at 5/2 our traders certainly fancy Bottas has a chance of outscoring his three-time world champion team-mate.

Given Hamilton’s renowned one-lap prowess, the bookies go 4/1 that the Englishman is out-qualified by his new team-mate over the course of the campaign. The 27-year-old is 3/1 to grab pole position at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in March, while 4/1 says Bottas wins in Melbourne.

At 7/2, the Finn’s most likely outcome this season is a pair of Grand Prix victories, with 3/1 saying he grabs a trio of wins. It’s 5/1 Bottas goes winless, while it’s also 5s that he becomes a front-running regular with five successes.

But with a renewed challenge expected from Red Bull and Ferrari this year, it’s odds-on at 1/3 that the Nastola-native finishes the year outside the top two in the standings.
