Is there time for another sports betting twist?

Is there time for another sports betting twist?

You better believe it! Certainly, the past weekend told us that twists and turns in football games in this stretch of La Liga can still happen and many of the betting odds suggest nothing is yet certain at either end of the table.

WEEK 34 WEDNESDAY:

Sporting Gijon vs Espanyol

The message for the home side is clear. Win against their mid-table opponents and the pressure is all on Leganes. Failure to collect three points, following a 2-2 draw at bottom club Osasuna, and Sporting’s race could be almost run. The spirited fightback they showed in that game suggests they can do it.

Granada vs Malaga

If Tony Adams is to pull off the miracle which was obviously required when he was appointed a week and a half ago, the second from bottom club need to win this one. Winless and goalless in his two games in charge, they only mustered two shots on target in their 2-0 defeat at Sevilla. Malaga, in contrast, were able to end Valencia’s mini run of form.

Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal

Third versus fifth and a chance of revenge for Diego Simeone’s men. Their 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Yellow Submarine in December was arguably their lowest point of the campaign. Villarreal certainly had luck on their side at the weekend though, when a clear Cedric Bakambu handball was allowed to stand and they saw off Leganes.

WEEK 34 THURSDAY:

Barcelona vs Osasuna

This is literally top versus bottom. Lionel Messi’s 500th goal for Barcelona – a last gasp winner at the Bernabeu – could well be his favourite if it means his side goes on to retain the title. It’s still in Real’s hands but the euphoric Barcelona reaction to the winning goal will surely be carried over into this encounter.

Leganes vs Las Palmas

Leganes’ cruel defeat at Villarreal means they can’t afford a fifth straight loss. Las Palmas may be accommodating visitors just when they need it the most. Could the Gran Canaria side find it difficult to be fully motivated such is their mid-table comfort?

Valencia vs Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad face a tricky test at Valencia as they look to consolidate sixth spot. That will be enough to qualify for the Europa League. Indeed, they will qualify from seventh spot if Barcelona win the Copa del Rey but they won’t want to risk that against Valencia, themselves keen to bounce back after their first defeat in five games.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Real Madrid

They may have won only one of their last six games but Pepe Mel will have his players fired up for this one. Real’s title credentials should certainly be tested at the Riazor. With skipper Sergio Ramos suspended, Madrid certainly can’t afford a defeat against the side which defeated Barcelona last month.

WEEK 34 FRIDAY:

Alaves vs Eibar

It’s Basque Country derby time. King’s Cup finalists Alaves host Eibar with one eye on next month’s Copa del Rey final. Eibar have one eye on a Europa League spot but must win to keep alive their chances.

Sevilla vs Celta Vigo

This time last season, Sevilla’s league form took a slight downturn as players focused on the Europa League they eventually won. Now Celta Vigo are arguably having the same issues. Their players can’t afford to be sluggish in Sevilla where uncertainty continues to surround the future of coach Jorge Sampaoli.

Athletic Bilbao vs Real Betis

After winning at Celta, the Andalusians will relish their trip to Bilbao. Bilbao have little turnaround time following their clash with Eibar but know they need to keep winning to retain their Europa League qualification hopes. Betis are safe but can have a big say who stays up in the month ahead.
