Forget what the odds are saying, here’s why Arsenal can beat Chelsea

Forget what the odds are saying, here’s why Arsenal can beat Chelsea

Forget what you’ve previously seen or heard about this supposed ‘Frozen Gunners’ side. Make no mistake about it, Arsenal will fancy their chances of winning the Emirates FA Cup this weekend.

Granted, Chelsea represent their toughest opponents in the competition in recent years, and Arsene Wenger’s men will head into the match as huge outsiders. But they could be great value if they get this right. If. Let’s look at the positives…

Experience

This is Arsenal’s third Emirates FA Cup final in four years. Not bad going, that. OK, their last two clashes at this stage came against Hull City and Aston Villa, but they came through both of those potential banana skins to lift the cup.

Big occasion? No problem

While the Gunners defeated the aforementioned teams in their two previous Emirates FA Cup triumphs, it’s worth noting that they got the better of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur en route to those two finals. And, lest we forget, this side has beaten Manchester City in order to get to Saturday’s Wembley showpiece.

Gunners have history – recent history – over Blues

Write Arsene Wenger’s men off at your peril. Chelsea haven’t lost all too often this season. But their biggest defeat came courtesy of… you guessed it. Will we see a repeat of that 3-0 hammering back in September? It’s unlikely, but it’ll certainly give this side a much needed boost heading into Saturday’s fixture.

And though we’re not reading too much into this, we haven’t forgotten what happened the last time this pair met at Wembley. An Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain strike ensured the Gunners won the 2015-16 Community Shield.

So with all of that in mind, there could certainly be some value in the 19/5 on Arsenal beating Chelsea in 90 minutes on Saturday. Failing that, 11/8 says they lift the trophy.
