Injured Farrell to miss Maori clash

Injured Farrell to miss Maori clash

Fly-half Owen Farrell will miss the British & Irish Lions match against Maori All Blacks on Saturday after suffering an injury in training. The Saracens star has suffered a grade one quadriceps strain and will be replaced on the bench by Wales' Dan Biggar. Johnny Sexton will start the game at fly-half.

Meanwhile, Warren Gatland has confirmed that Peter O'Mahony will captain the Lions in the game at Rotorua International Stadium. "It is important to build on the foundations that have been laid," said the Lions coach. "We were obviously disappointed with the loss against the Highlanders and realise that we need to improve in several areas, including our discipline, but we feel that overall we are building well towards the Test matches. Peter is a proven captain with Munster who never takes a backward step and we believe that those leadership qualities will serve us well on Saturday against a quality and determined Maori All Blacks team."

Lions team to face the Maori All Blacks: Leigh Halfpenny, Anthony Watson, Jonathan Davies, Ben Te'o, George North, Johnny Sexton, Conor Murray, Mako Vunipola, Jamie George, Tadhg Furlong, Maro Itoje, George Kruis, Peter O'Mahony, Sean O'Brien, Taulupe Faletau.

Replacements: Ken Owens, Jack McGrath, Kyle Sinckler, Iain Henderson, Sam Warburton, Greig Laidlaw, Dan Biggar, Elliot Daly.

The Lions are 4/1 to win the first Test against New Zealand and 4/1 to win the series, with the tourists 6/1 to claim a 2-1 series victory.
