Old Lady is Stunned by the Brilliant Immobile

Another double strike from the irrepressible Ciro Immobile gave Lazio a 1-2 win In Turin to leave Juventus five points off the top, and draw Lazio level on points with the Champions, in fourth place.

In a fantastic round of football games, league leaders Napoli took advantage of the Bianconeri’s loss to stretch their lead over the betting websites’ hot favourites. And this loss was a stunning result, the first home defeat for Juve in two years. Pre-match betting odds had Juventus to win with a -1.00 goal handicap, but that never looked likely as Lazio made their own case for an assault on the title.

Douglas Costa had put the hosts ahead, but Immobile showed his striker’s instinct, converting a great cross from Luis Alberto shortly after the break. And then he added his 14th goal of the season, in all competitions, from the spot. Juve’s own top scorer, Paulo Dybala, missed an injury-time penalty.

Immobile’s former strike partner while at Pescara, Lorenzo Insigne, smashed home Napoli’s winner in a 0-1 triumph against Roma. The hosts came in on the back of five wins in six, but Napoli showed great determination to hang on to their lead.

Mauro Icardi hit a hat-trick to give Inter a 3-2 victory in the Milan derby. Icardi put Inter ahead twice, but Milan fought back to score early in the second half when Fabio Borini teed up Suso to fire home from distance, and a late own goal by Samir Handanovic almost gave them a point. But Icardi slotted home a late penalty to put Inter clear in second place. That’s three defeats on the bounce for Milan.

Elsewhere, there were also wins for Fiorentina, Bologna, Genoa and Sampdoria, while Hellas Verona and Benevento battle it out for bottom spot tomorrow.
