Why This Now Could be Quite the Derby Day

Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal

It could just be one of the most tantalising, season-defining games of the year. A north London Derby with the added lure of Champions League riches at stake. Think football betting but on a huge scale!

It’s unlikely both Spurs and Arsenal will be in Europe’s premier competition next season. But one of them could well be and this match could well determine who ultimately prevails.

Football games between these two giants are regularly compelling, for a variety of reasons.

After such a long time as the sports betting favourites and the dominant outfit in NW7/17, the Gunners have been pushed aside to second in the order of merit.

However, while Spurs have had the upper hand in recent seasons (they still had a more successful campaign in 2015/16 despite being pipped by the Gunners for second place), Arsenal have managed to win silverware in the form of three FA Cups in four seasons.

For Arsenal, anything bar victory at Wembley will surely seem them fall by the wayside. The question is can they perform away from home against key rivals as they do at home against lesser teams?

Whether the joy and optimism which last weekend’s 5-1 defeat of Everton brought is yet another false dawn or something more tangible.

Certainly, the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has lifted spirits, Henrikh Mkhitaryan showed many positive signs on his home debut, while Aaron Ramsey, who scored his first career hat-trick against the Toffees, could be coming into form at just the right time.

Spurs have been boosted too. By their late, late show at Anfield when Harry Kane rescued a point with his 100th Premier League goal. By Victor Wanyama scoring the best goal he will surely ever score in his career. By the character of twice coming from behind. By a new signing in Lucas Moura who will likely be included in the squad for the first time since his arrival from PSG.

It should be quite an introduction to English football for the Brazilian!

This has all the hallmarks of a derby day cracker.
