So Who Can Make the Last Eight?

So Who Can Make the Last Eight?

The last four quarter-final places are up for grabs in Champions League football games. And with the exception of one contest, the sports betting scenarios are delicately poised.

That is why my betting tips require careful consideration.

Manchester United vs (0-0 on agg.) Sevilla (March 14, 03:45 GMT+8)

The second leg of the clash between the last two winners of the Europa League. This tie should make compelling viewing as Jose Mourinho welcomes the Andalusians to town. United start as slight favourites, although the betting odds actually make them clear favourites.

I think it will be tight and my £10 bet is Manchester United Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 2.14, with a £5 bet thrown in on Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.91.

AS Roma vs (1-2 on agg.) Shakhtar Donetsk (March 14, 03:45 GMT+8)

With the Ukrainian league well on the way to being wrapped up, Donetsk can travel to Italy with some confidence. Their first-leg victory was a memorable one for all connected with the hosts; and in Argentinian striker Facundo Ferreyra, they have a frontman in form.

Roma are also a side in form, not least in their 4-2 win against Serie A leaders Napoli a week ago. They are also a stronger proposition at home and have not lost a European tie in the Olimpico for more than a year. Again, I’m expecting a home victory and a few goals, although Roma know a 1-0 success will be enough to take them through.

My 2 x £10 tips are Asian Handicap Roma -1.00 @ 2.11 and Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.99.

Besiktas vs (0-5 on agg.) Bayern Munich (March 15, 01:00 GMT+8)

Besiktas know this tie is over before the second leg starts. Like FC Porto and Basel before them in the last 16, the gulf in class has been too much. There is hardly any disgrace as 2013 winners Bayern have not lost since November and, after winning 16 of their last 17 matches, are now a whopping 20 points clear in the Bundesliga.

A risky £5 bet is 1X2 draw @ 4.10 with a £20 tip of Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.21.

Barcelona vs (1-1 on agg.) Chelsea (March 15, 03:45 GMT+8)

The last time Chelsea played in the Nou Camp, they came away with a 2-2 draw and a place in the 2012 Champions League Final. Surely, Barca have not forgotten that pain and will not want a repeat. I don’t think there will be a repeat, even if Chelsea should travel to Barcelona with real belief they can grab the away goal they require.

It’s at the other end where I do not believe they will be able to keep a clean sheet. Tactical discipline is key and I do not expect many goals.

En route to a Barcelona victory, my £5 tip is First Half 1X2 draw @ 2.48 and a £10 bet of Over 3.00 goals @ 2.05.
