Super Antoine Strikes Double as Atletico Triumph

Olympique Marseille 0-3 Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann lit up the Stade des Lumieres in Lyon tonight as Atletico Madrid swept to victory in the Europa League final.

Diego Simeone’s La Liga giants were clear favourites with football betting players. And the best football bets usually come off, as this one did spectacularly for Atleti’s fans. The brilliant Griezmann struck once in either half to win the game

But Marseille dominated the first twenty minutes, and had Valerie Germain not spurned a great chance to put them ahead we’d have seen a big shift in the live betting market. But then, out of the blue, Atletico went ahead. Griezmann found himself in a one on one with Steve Mandanda after chaotic Marseille defending and slotted the ball easily past the hapless keeper.

If that wasn’t enough, Marseille’s biggest threat and captain, Dimitri Payet, went off on the half hour clutching his hamstring. Rudi Garcia would be right in thinking his team unlucky as half time approached.

But there was no luck involved when Atletico took a stranglehold on the game early in the second half with a delightful goal. Koke won the ball in midfield and slid the ball through for Griezmann, and the French maestro dinked the ball beautifully over Mandanda and into the net.

Simeone’s team isn’t easy to score against at the best of times but Marseille’s night was summed up on 81 minutes when Mitroglou beat Jan Oblak with a lovely header, only to see the ball bounce back off the inside of the post.

And that was the cue for Atletico skipper Gabi to finish the game, and a move started by Griezmann, to make it three.
