United spoil Lampard return

Manchester United spoilt Frank Lampard's Chelsea return, winning 4-0 at Old Trafford in the first game of the new Premier League season.

Marcus Rashford put United ahead with a first half penalty before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side made the game safe with two in the space of a minute in the second half through Anthony Martial and Rahford again before new signing Daniel James added a fourth.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave United debuts to new signings Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka with keeper David de Gea named captain.

Frank Lampard, in his first league game as Chelsea boss showed his intent to promote youth with Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount in the starting line up and Abraham almost gave him the perfect start, hitting the woodwork after just two minutes

The visitors were left to rue that missed opportunity after just quarter of an hour when the home side were awarded a penalty after Rashford was fouled in the box by Kurt Zouma and the striker took the spot-kick himself, making no mistake to give United an early lead.

That settled United down and they started to control the game though Chelsea were unfortunate not to level just before the break, hitting the woodwork for the second time, Emerson hitting the same post as Abraham had earlier.

United's lead looked a fragile one but two goals in a minutes sealed the game. Andreas Periera crossed for Anthony Martial to force the ball home from close range then, seconds after the restart Paul Pogba's excellent ball found Rashford who controlled and fired home for his second and United's third.

Solskjaer introduced new signing James and he crowned his United debut with the fourth goal, taking a Pogba pass and sending a deflected shot home.

Chelsea play their first home game of the new campaign next Sunday, Lampard returning to Stamford Bridge with Leicester the visitors while United travel to Molineux on Monday night to face Wolves. They are 23/20 to make it two wins from two with Wolves 23/10 and the draw 12/5. Rashford is 5/1 to score the first goal on the night.
