NBA: Warriors Prove That Heart is Better than Height, Jazz Re-Assert Their Might

The Warriors had one of their best performances this season as they crushed the Mavericks despite being undermanned.

They scored an NBA season high of 147 points and it was a much needed victory in order for them to keep their NBA 2021 odds alive in terms of making it back to the postseason.

Meanwhile, the Jazz are back to winning ways after dispatching the Hawks, while the Blazers, Rockets, and Lakers took care of business as well.

Utah Jazz 112-91 Atlanta Hawks

The biggest reason why the Jazz have taken the league by storm is because they’ve been getting significant contributions from all of their players consistently.

Anyone can explode on any given night. And against the Hawks, it was their sixth man in Jordan Clarkson who spearheaded the attack.

The combo guard knocked down five three-pointers en route to a team high of 23 points, while he was backstopped by Bojan Bogdanovic and Donovan Mitchell who scored 21 and 18 points respectively.

Despite not having Trae Young in the lineup, the Hawks put out a valiant effort up until the third period.

However, Utah outscored Atlanta 35-26 in the said quarter and that proved to be the difference in this game.

The Jazz shot 48-per cent from the field and their defence clearly stymied the Hawks as they only shot 32-per cent overall.

John Collins and Kevin Huerter had 17 and 16 points each for Atlanta.

Golden State Warriors 147-116 Dallas Mavericks

The Warriors went back to their small-ball ways and it proved to be more than enough against an inconsistent Mavericks team.

Without a traditional center available, their forwards played bigger than their size as they were effective on both ends of the floor.

Kelly Oubre Jr. exploded for 40 points on seven three-pointers, while Steph Curry added 28 markers.

Draymond Green served as their makeshift center and he tallied 11 points and 15 assists, which is his season-high.

After a back-and-forth first half, Golden State took control in the third period as they went on a 17-4 blitz with under six minutes left in the quarter.

Even with Curry and Green on the bench during the first half of the final quarter, the Warriors still managed to go on a 17-7 run to put the game away.

Golden State simply outplayed Dallas in this game as they had 18 more points in the paint and three more total rebounds.

Mavericks duo Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis combined for 52 markers in the losing effort. 

Portland Trail Blazers 121-105 Philadelphia Sixers

Without Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, the Blazers leaned on their role players to bring home an unexpected victory over the East-leading Sixers on the road.

Gary Trent Jr. scored 24 points and Enes Kanter added 17 points and 18 rebounds, while Carmelo Anthony had a vintage outing with 22 points.

Joel Embiid gave Portland all they could handle as he scored 31 points in the first half, with 25 of them coming from the second quarter.

The Sixers giant was the lone bright spot for the team as they struggled collectively from the outside, shooting only at a 26-per cent clip.

A superb start to the second half was all the Blazers needed to ice the game. Portland unloaded a 40-19 run in the third quarter and they never looked back.

The Sixers are now 10-2 at home this season. 

Houston Rockets 115-103 Memphis Grizzlies

The Rockets bounced back from their humiliating loss against the Thunder on Wednesday by defeating the Grizzlies on the road.

The biggest difference for the Rockets was their improvement in three-point shooting. Against OKC in the last time out, they only shot 26-per cent. But this time around, they were at 42-per cent.

Houston were fueled by an 18-4 run in the first half to carry a 13-point lead into the halftime break. Memphis endured a rough time shooting in the second half, while their visitors kept on rolling.

John Wall scored 22 points, while Eric Gordon added 20. Jae’Sean Tate scored a season-high of 19 points and Christian Wood tallied 17 before exiting the game due to a sprained ankle as Houston are now one game over .500.

Los Angeles Lakers 114-93 Denver Nuggets 

The Lakers extended their win streak to three games as they defeated the Nuggets at home in what was a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals.

LeBron James had 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Dennis Schroder added 21 points to help the Lakers cruise at home.

After trailing in the earlier stages, Los Angeles regained control by unleashing a 15-0 run late in the third quarter as LeBron James and Talen Horton-Tucker led the comeback.

Horton-Tucker scored 12 of his 17 markers in the said comeback, and the Lakers held the Nuggets to only 35 points while scoring 68 in the final two quarters.
It was a historic night for LeBron James as he moved into third place in the NBA’s career field goals list surpassing Wilt Chamberlain and he also recorded his 96th career triple-double.
