La Liga: Barcelona Seek Easy Three Points Against Lowly Getafe

La Liga: Barcelona Seek Easy Three Points Against Lowly Getafe

Barcelona vs Getafe

Barcelona’s hunt for their second domestic trophy continues when they head back to Camp Nou this Thursday.

Ronald Koeman’s men had the perfect opportunity to retake the top spot in the La Liga standings, but things didn’t go according to plan as they weren’t successful in taking care of business while Los Rojiblancos reminded everyone who’s in charge.

Now that they are in the same place as they were last week, Barcelona are expected to go guns ablaze when Getafe visit town.

Los Azulones are seeking to improve their record in order to maintain top-flight status at the end of the season. They are currently at 15th with 31 points, which is only four points clear over the likes of Alaves, Huesca, and Real Valladolid.

Getafe are in dire need of a spark and nothing would be sweeter than for them to upset the Blaugrana once again.

Talking Points

Barcelona fight for their La Liga dream

As we’re winding down the 2020/21 season, there’s a huge sense of urgency for Ronald Koeman and his men to gather as much points as they can in order to secure his first title with the club.

April, indeed, is a big month for Barcelona and so far they passed with flying colors since they have been in imperious form.

Their only setback was their 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid in El Clasico. But other than that, they have won three of their last four games.

One of Barca’s biggest wins this season comes in the form of them winning their 31st Copa del Rey trophy. It was a masterful effort by the Catalan giants as they dispatched Athletic Bilbao with a 4-0 tally.

After a goalless first half, Barcelona flipped the switch as Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong, and Lionel Messi each scored to secure the victory.

Back in La Liga, Barcelona are still in control of their destiny despite being third at the table. They are only trailing by five points to Atletico Madrid and they still have a game in hand compared to their rivals.

Lionel Messi, who has 21 goals under his belt, spearheads the best attacking team in La Liga – which means that Getafe’s backline is going to be in for a long night.

Getafe can’t seem to get over the hump

It’s hard to complain if you’re a Getafe fan if you look at their recent La Liga 2021 results.

Los Azulones may have only gathered four draws and one loss in their last five fixtures. But if you’ll examine their opponents at the time,  you’ll know that what they went through is no joke.

In a span of 36 days, Getafe went through two of the top teams in La Liga plus some clubs who are basically around their level.

The encouraging thing about that stretch is that they were able to hold Atletico and Real Madrid to goalless draws. However, when it’s time to be more aggressive on the attack, they weren’t able to do so against Elche, Osasuna, and Cadiz.

Top scorer Jaime Mata has yet to score in over a month now, and Getafe as a whole would need to re-assess their approach if they’ll have a chance against Barcelona.

History

Barcelona have been utterly dominant against Getafe historically.

In their last 35 encounters, the hosts have won 25 times while the visitors have only won four times along with six draws.

Victories are hard to come by for Getafe whenever they face Barcelona, which is why many were shocked when they were able to deal Ronald Koeman his first loss at the helm last October.

Getafe leading scorer Jaime Mata scored a 56th-minute goal after a penalty was drawn by Djene Dakonam, and that was enough for them to grab three points at home.

Betting Tip

Barcelona Asian Handicap -1.50 @ 1.80

The La Liga 2021 odds here at SBOTOP have Barcelona installed as the big favourites to win this Thursday.

The Catalan giants are priced at 1.25 to win, while the readings don’t offer much hope for Getafe since they’re at 11.50. Moreover, a draw is also unlikely to happen since it is pegged at 5.60 in the 1X2 market.

Getafe’s win in the reverse fixture was considered by many as a one-off, so it’s safe to say that it won’t happen again this time around.

Even at their best day, it will be hard to envision Jose Bordalas’ men pulling it off again versus a loaded Barcelona team.
