Selby is in the mood for more

Mark Selby has warned his World Championship rivals that he feels he is playing close to the standard which has seen him become a three-time champion.

Selby was speaking after opening his World Championship campaign with an emphatic 10-1 victory over Kurt Maflin, which set up a mouthwatering second-round meeting with Mark Allen.

He told World Snooker: "My game this season has been close to my best and I feel very good mentally as well.

"Beating Kurt 10-1 is up there with my best performances, especially as the first round here is always a difficult hurdle.

"I am playing well in practice and, more often than not, bringing that game to the match table."

Selby claimed the world title in 2014, 2016 and 2017, with the last of those successes coming against John Higgins - who had beaten the Jester from Leicester 18-13 in the 2007 final.

And Higgins will lie in wait for Selby should both players make it through to the quarter-finals, with the winner of Higgins and Mark Williams taking on either Selby or Allen.

And Selby says he is not too bothered about being in such a tough-looking section of the draw, adding: "I prefer that because I know if I'm not on my game I'll be going home.

"Playing against a qualifier when you are a massive favourite brings another type of pressure."

Selby is 8/15 to defeat Allen, 3/1 to reach the final and 11/2 to secure a fourth World Championship title.
