Sunday's 0-0 draw at Real Betis has left Real Madrid nine points behind Barcelona in the LaLiga table.

After failing to win their last three matches in all competitions, they will be looking to bounce back against Espanyol in Saturday's early game.

Espanyol lost 2-1 away to Real Valladolid on Sunday, but won their two previous matches. At the time of writing, they sit 12th in LaLiga.

Their striker, Martin Braithwaite, has also scored three goals in his team's last two games.

Los Periquitos have not won at the Bernabéu since 1996, and Real won August's reverse fixture at the RCDE Stadium 3-1.

Karim Benzema scored two goals in that match, but has failed to score in his last three appearances. However, he has netted 12 times against Espanyol in his career, and will be looking to find his form ahead of next Wednesday's Champions League last 16 second leg against Liverpool.

A win on Saturday will set Real up nicely ahead of the Liverpool tie, and it looks unlikely that Espanyol will be able to end their 27-year wait for a victory at the Bernabéu.

Villarreal host Real Betis on Sunday in a game that could prove crucial in the battle for the European places.

Villarreal sit sixth in the table, a place and four points behind Betis. However, they have won their last two LaLiga matches, beating Getafe 2-1 before winning 2-0 down the coast at Almería.

Sunday's draw against Real Madrid extended Betis' unbeaten run in LaLiga to four matches, having previously beaten Almería 3-2, Real Valladolid 2-1, and Elche 3-2.

They also won September's reverse game 1-0 thanks to Rodri's goal, but have a poor record at the Estadio de la Cerámica, winning just once at the ground since 2007.

However, they have won six of their 12 away games in LaLiga this season, but that falls short of Villarreal's home record, with El Submarino Amarillo recording seven wins in 11 home games in LaLiga.

There are several subplots heading into the game, with both Villarreal coach Quique Setién and his Betis counterpart Manuel Pellegrini facing one of their former clubs, while the teams are also in European action on Thursday. Villarreal will travel to Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League, while Betis will be away at Manchester United in the Europa League.

If fatigue kicks in, this could be a tight game, and it is worth noting that the last three meetings have resulted in a 'no' in the Both Teams to Score market.

One of the great LaLiga rivalries concludes Sunday's action as Athletic Club Bilbao host Barcelona.

LaLiga leaders Barcelona scrapped to a 1-0 win over Valencia on Sunday, and Real Madrid's draw at Betis means they now sit nine points clear at the top of the table. However, the result came at a cost, with key defender Ronald Araújo sent off, meaning he will miss the game at San Mamés through suspension.

Araújo’s absence could be felt against an Athletic side who often raise their game against the big teams.

At the time of writing, Athletic sit eighth in LaLiga, 29 points behind Barcelona, and have failed to win any of their last four games in all competitions.

Athletic have lost the last two meetings 4-0, but both of those were at Camp Nou. They won the pair's last game at San Mamés 3-2 in extra-time in the Copa del Rey, while the pair's most recent LaLiga clash at the stadium finished 1-1.

Barcelona have endured some mixed form in recent weeks, going out of the Europa League to Manchester United, and then losing to Almería. This looks to be another tricky assignment in the Basque Country.
