Europa League Final: A closer look at the odds

At odds of 2.350*, Pinnacle suggests the German’s have edged ahead as the favourites over the Scottish side. Rangers haven’t performed well in UEFA competitions for several decades, having only a single victory in a mere four appearances in the final – the last of which was back in 2007/08.

But Rangers have had a strong season in the Scottish Premier League and cruised into the Europa League final with a comfortable 3-1 win over another German side, RB Leipzig. On the back of a strong season, Pinnacle traders have Rangers at 3.110* to beat the Germans.

Historically, the last European meetings between these two teams were high-scoring affairs, and between them there have been 42 goals scored during the 2021/22 Europa League. Pinnacle’s traders have Total Match Goals of Over 3 priced at 2.480*.

European finals are high-pressure meetings and neither side will want to slip up early. Pinnacle’s traders have the Half Time Draw at 2.210*. The Draw After 90 Minutes is at 3.440*.

Europa League head-to-head record

How could anyone forget the last time these two teams met? Yes, it was way back in the 1959/60 European Cup semi-finals, but we saw a huge seven goals in what was a 6-1 victory for Frankfurt in the first leg. The second leg was an even bigger spectacle with nine goals scored as Frankfurt dominated in a 6-3 victory.

Rangers have never gone all the way and claimed a Europa League trophy. The closest they’ve ever come was a 2-0 loss to Zenit Saint Petersburg in the 2008 final. Frankfurt have raised the trophy once before, with victory against Borussia Monchengladbach in 1980.

Europa League final: who has the edge?

These two clubs are both nursing injury concerns and losses ahead of the final. Eintracht Frankfurt lost Austrian defender Martin Hinteregger during their semi-final victory over West Ham and Djibril Sow, Rafael Santos Borre, Jesper Lindstrom, and Jens Petter Hauge are all in doubt to play in Spain.

Rangers will be hoping that star striker Kemar Roofe, who has been out since their Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Celtic, will be fully recovered from a knee injury that has taken longer to heal than hoped.

Frankfurt have looked the better outfit during the tournament with three wins from four during the quarter- and semi-finals, knocking out Barcelona and West Ham. Rangers spent their quarter- and semi-finals series recovering from first-leg defeats by striking enough goals during their second-leg victories.

Rangers do have the goal-scoring advantage with two more goals scored in the tournament than Frankfurt, and their defender James Tavernier has scored the most goals in the Europa League tournament with seven – all of which were struck during knockout rounds.

Looking at recent form, Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 victory over West Ham in the Europa League semi-final is their only win in their last three matches. Rangers, however, have won two games from their last three outings which includes a 2-0 victory in their most recent match.
